Handcrafted Spotted Gum Spurtle | Traditional Scottish Porridge Stirrer

$39.00

Elevate your morning routine with a traditional Scottish spurtle, handcrafted to make the perfect, lump-free bowl of porridge. If you have been using a standard spoon or spatula to stir your oats, you are likely whipping air into the mix and separating the grains. The spurtle’s unique cylindrical design prevents this, gliding through the oats to ensure a flawlessly smooth, creamy texture every single time.

I turn each of these spurtles on the lathe in my Moruya workshop using beautiful, salvaged Australian spotted gum. Beyond its rich, striking grain, spotted gum is an incredibly dense and durable hardwood, making it the perfect material for a kitchen tool you will reach for daily. After shaping, the wood is sanded smooth and sealed with a natural, food-safe tung oil finish to protect the timber and make the grain pop.

This piece has been carefully designed in line with traditional Scottish spurtle dimensions to give you the authentic experience. It measures 260mm in length, keeping your hands safely away from the heat of the stove, with a 5mm diameter at its thickest point for a comfortable, precise grip.
